- How it is organized
- Cognition AI, Inc. is the legal entity on every governing page read: the Platform Terms of Service call the agreement one between the customer and Cognition AI, Inc. ("Cognition," "we," "us," or "our"), and the Privacy Policy names Cognition AI, Inc. as the company behind cognition.com and the software-as-a-service offerings that include Devin and Windsurf. The headquarters is the United States because the terms' Notice of Arbitration address is Cognition AI, Inc., 550 Third Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, which is the one principal notice address named for the company in the documents reviewed; New York governs the agreement and hosts arbitration, which is not read as a headquarters statement. No parent organization is recorded. Section 14 of the terms preserves a carve-out for users who licensed Devin Desktop under Exafunction, Inc. before assignment to Cognition AI, Inc., which matches the reviewed Devin Desktop record's rename note after Cognition's acquisition of the Windsurf product from Exafunction; that predecessor licensor is not a parent. It is an AI company because its own homepage says Cognition operates Devin and calls itself an applied AI lab building end-to-end software agents, and its Privacy Policy describes Devin and Windsurf as its SaaS offerings rather than one feature inside a broader non-AI business. It is recorded on a system rather than a release, so ADR 048's basis applies: this catalog has reviewed no Cognition model release. Its blog describes an in-house SWE-2 coding model served only inside Devin Desktop and the CLI, which this catalog records in exclusions.json as having no separate release boundary, so that line is noted here and not admitted as a model record. The reviewed systems are Devin, the cloud autonomous software-engineering agent documented as Cognition's product, and Devin Desktop, whose reviewed description names Cognition as the maker of the local IDE; both records name no organization field, which is the shape ADR 048 calls a maker's join. The catalog spells the organization "Cognition" once, as the steward of the Devin Desktop Rules specification, so that string belongs in catalog_names; it is no model developer, inference-service operator, runtime maintainer, or pack steward in this collection. Its channels are the Devin release notes, where product changes are announced, and the Cognition blog, where the organization publishes its own news; no model-catalog channel is recorded because no reviewed model release of its own exists and SWE-2 is hosted only inside the published systems. No GitHub or Hugging Face organization is recorded as a channel, because neither reviewed system carries a repository and no first-party page reviewed links an organization that publishes the lab's AI work from either host. It publishes no frontier-safety, responsible-scaling, preparedness, or risk-management framework on the pages read, so the field is omitted rather than filled with platform terms or acceptable-use policy alone.
