- The Swiss AI Initiative is a national research effort started in December 2023 as the first initiative of the Swiss National AI Institute, a partnership between the ETH AI Center and the EPFL AI Center; ETH Zurich and EPFL have equal voting power on its steering committee, and it was seeded with compute on the CSCS Alps system and a grant from the ETH Domain. Apertus is developed by the Swiss AI Initiative, and the Apertus site carries the notice of the ETH AI Center and the EPFL AI Center. The pages reviewed name no legal entity for the initiative itself.
