The maintainers of SWE-agent replaced their own tool-rich scaffold with a shell-only loop and published the boundary between the two, making it the reference for how little harness a coding agent needs.

Declared successor to SWE-agent in that project's readme, and the maintainers' own boundary statement lives in this project's documentation: prefer this for a simple local tool and stable sandboxing, and the predecessor for custom tools and rich configuration. The second major version changed the trajectory format with a migration guide. The package still carries an alpha classifier at version 2.4.
